Opposition MPs, led by Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, protested in the Parliament House complex on Tuesday against the alleged theft of donations intended for the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the police’s harsh treatment of student protesters. This demonstration highlighted significant grievances related to the governance of the ruling party.
In a powerful display of dissent, the MPs assembled in front of the Makar Dwar of Parliament, armed with placards and shouting slogans such as ‘chhanda chor, gaddi chor’ and ‘Amit Shah jawaab do.’ Their chants echoed through the corridors of power, demanding accountability from the government.
The MPs creatively highlighted their accusations by placing donation boxes at the protest site, symbolizing the supposed misappropriation of funds destined for the Ram temple. Many participants lined up around these boxes, raising slogans which demanded justice and transparency. To reinforce their claims, some MPs contributed cash to the donation boxes, representing both the generous spirit of the donors and the alleged subsequent theft.
Included in the protest were significant figures from various political parties, such as SP leaders Dimple Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav, TMC’s Sagarika Ghose, RJD’s Sanjay Yadav and Manoj Jha, along with RSP’s NK Premchandran. Their collective presence underscored bipartisan frustration regarding the issues at hand.
The MPs positioned themselves behind an eye-catching banner that read ‘Why Amit Shah absent from Parliament,’ as they directed their grievances specifically towards the Home Minister, seeking answers and responsibility for the ongoing situation.
Throughout the protest, the INDIA bloc committed itself to pressing the government on claims of monetary misappropriation within the Ram temple and the reportedly excessive police force used against student protesters last week. This commitment manifests in a coordinated attempt to spotlight these pressing matters in the public eye and the legislative floor.
The floor leaders of the INDIA bloc convened in the chamber of Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, where they reaffirmed their strategy to hold the government accountable for the twin issues of ‘chhanda chori’ (donation theft) and police violence against students.
