Vice President Dhankhar Urges Youth to Explore Opportunities Beyond Civil Services

New Delhi, Aug 16 — Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed his concerns on Friday about the overwhelming presence of coaching centre advertisements in newspapers, which he described as a “seductive” draw for the civil services. Addressing the induction programme for the first batch of the joint Masters/LLM degree in Intellectual Property (IP) Law and Management at the National Law University, Delhi, Dhankhar urged students to consider diverse and lucrative opportunities beyond the civil service.

“Now, I find the extravaganza of coaching centre advertisements overall in the newspapers,” Dhankhar remarked. “Page one, page two, page three are filled up with faces of boys and girls who have made it. The same faces are being used by multiple organisations.”

He pointed out that the significant cost of these advertisements is funded by the aspirations of young candidates seeking to secure a future for themselves. “Look at the extravaganza of these advertisements, the cost, every penny of that advertisement has come from those young boys and girls who are in pursuit of securing a future for themselves,” he added.

Dhankhar encouraged the youth to explore a broader range of opportunities. “The time has come, let us come out of the silos of seductive civil service jobs. We know the opportunities are limited but we have to look away and find there are enormous vistas of opportunities far more lucrative that enable you to contribute (to the nation) massively,” he said.

He also urged young people to reject and counteract “forces that keep self-interest above the interest of the country.”
