The Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Competition for All Age Group (AAG) Girls commenced today at the University of Jammu. This event, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), District Jammu, attracted around 300 girl athletes from various government and private schools.
Participants exhibited remarkable enthusiasm, competing in multiple track and field events. The competition provided a platform for these young athletes to demonstrate their strength, speed, and sporting spirit, reflecting a commitment to physical fitness and sportsmanship.
During the discus throw events, Sweety Devi from Zone Marh clinched gold in the U-19 category. Konika Chib from Zone RS Pura secured the silver, while Renu from Zone Bishnah took home the bronze. In the U-17 category, Nidhi Verma from Zone Satwari won gold, with Kiran Kumari from Zone Bhalwal and Nirjala from Zone Bishnah following closely for silver and bronze, respectively. For the U-14 segment, the title went to Subhana from Zone Satwari, while Sonakshi from Zone Miran Sahib and Mansi from Zone Akhnoor secured silver and bronze.
The 100m races saw Damanpreet from Zone Bishnah take the gold in the U-14 category. In U-17, Nishta Sharma from Zone Jammu emerged victorious, and Shivani, also from Zone Jammu, dominated the U-19 race.
The 400m events were particularly thrilling, with Sahiba Choudhary from Zone Dansal winning gold in U-14. Nishta Sharma again demonstrated her prowess by dominating the U-17 category.
In the 300m race, Mehak from Zone Jammu secured gold in the U-19, while Sonia Choudhary from Zone Dansal excelled in the U-17 category.
The high jump events showcased exceptional talent as Shriya Bhagat from Zone Chowki Choura won gold in U-14, followed by Rohika Devi in U-17, and Payal Kumari in U-19, all representing the same zone.
DYSSO Jammu and technical officials like Nirmal Singh, Chamel Singh, Sarabjeet Singh, Vijay Sharma, and Harsimran Singh awarded medals to top performers throughout the event. They commended the winners and encouraged all athletes to embrace values of dedication, discipline, team spirit, and sportsmanship as the competition progresses.
This athletic meet illustrates the growing emphasis on girls’ sports in the region, fostering a spirit of competition and excellence among young women. With continued support from the DYSS, such events can encourage more female participation in athletics, shaping a new generation of empowered athletes.
