J&K ACB Nabs Head Constable Posted at PS Mahore for Taking ₹8,000 Bribe
The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has apprehended Head Constable Mahroof Ahmed, presently posted at Police Station Mahore, District Reasi, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe amounting to ₹8,000.
As per the complaint received by the Bureau, the complainant stated that after being detained in a case, he was granted interim bail by the Hon’ble Court on 25 September 2025, with directions to report daily at PS Mahore between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. During this period, the said Head Constable allegedly harassed him, detained him beyond the permitted hours, and demanded a bribe of ₹8,000 for allowing timely release. The money was allegedly handed over on 1 October 2025 within the police station premises.
Two days later, the accused reportedly demanded an additional ₹12,000 for releasing the complainant’s tractor and to continue allowing timely departure from the police station. After negotiations, the demand was reduced to ₹8,000, accompanied by threats of being booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in case of non-payment.
Unwilling to comply further, the complainant approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau, which verified the allegations and registered FIR No. 02/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) at ACB Udhampur. A trap was subsequently laid by a team led by a Gazetted Officer, during which the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses.
The investigation is ongoing.
