GMC Doda’s First Thrombolysis for Stroke: A Medical Breakthrough

Doda, Nov 2: Government Medical College (GMC) Doda has made a historic advancement in emergency healthcare by performing its first-ever thrombolysis procedure on a stroke patient. This pioneering effort represents a milestone for the Chenab Valley region.

The procedure took place under the leadership of Principal Dr. Rakesh Bahl and Head of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Amir Hussain Parray. This marks the first instance of such an advanced treatment being executed locally, enhancing the region’s emergency response capabilities.

The patient, identified as Roshan Lal from village Dolli in Gundna tehsil, exhibited classic symptoms of a stroke. Upon arrival at GMC Doda, he received prompt evaluation and treatment from the Medicine Department team, including Dr. Govinder Kumar (MD Medicine), assisted by Dr. Divyanshu (Resident Doctor) and Dr. Momin (Intern). The team benefited from substantial technical and logistical assistance from Mr. Rajinder Singh, Mr. Arif Mir, and the dedicated nursing staff.

Post-treatment, doctors confirmed that the patient is responding positively to thrombolytic therapy and is on the path to recovery.

Previously, patients experiencing acute strokes in Doda and nearby areas faced the challenge of being referred to GMC Jammu or other facilities, often risking valuable time during transfers. With the successful administration of thrombolysis at GMC Doda, patients can now receive expert stroke management within their own district.

Dr. Rakesh Bahl, celebrating this achievement, remarked, “This event stands as a landmark achievement for GMC Doda, providing reassurance for thousands in remote areas who can now access advanced treatment without delay.”

Dr. Amir Hussain Parray reinforced this sentiment, stating, “This success not only highlights our team’s enhance capabilities in emergency medicine but also serves as a beacon of hope for the entire Chenab region.”

The community has widely praised this development, viewing it as a crucial step toward bolstering rural healthcare infrastructure. This initiative aims to facilitate timely interventions for stroke patients within the critical golden hour from the onset of symptoms.

Statistics indicate that adequate management of strokes can significantly improve patient outcomes. The ability to perform thrombolysis locally may reduce mortality rates and long-term disabilities associated with strokes in the Chenab Valley. Previously, the lack of immediate access to such treatments could lead to severe implications for stroke victims.

As GMC Doda continues to evolve, the recent thrombolysis achievement signals a future of enhanced medical services, potentially attracting more healthcare professionals and resources to the area, ultimately benefiting patients in urgent situations.

In conclusion, the inaugural thrombolysis for stroke at GMC Doda is not just a triumph for the local medical community but a crucial advancement in emergency healthcare for the entire Chenab Valley.
