Army Chief Gen Dhiraj Seth Reviews Security in J&K, Visits LoC and Amarnath Yatra Areas

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Dhiraj Seth on Wednesday reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, visited forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) and assessed security arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.

During his maiden visit to Jammu and Kashmir after assuming office on June 30, the Army Chief visited the 15 Corps Headquarters in Srinagar on Tuesday before reviewing operational preparedness at the Northern Command Headquarters in Udhampur and the 16 Corps Headquarters in Nagrota.

General Seth was briefed by Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma and GOC 16 Corps Lt Gen P.K. Mishra on the overall security scenario, anti-infiltration measures, counter-terrorism operations and the situation along the LoC, particularly in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.

Officials informed the Army Chief that infiltration attempts backed by the Pakistan Army have largely been thwarted, with no major successful infiltration reported in recent months. He also reviewed ongoing operations against the remaining terrorists in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.

The COAS was apprised of the Army’s people-centric initiatives in rural and remote areas and the security arrangements put in place for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage, where troops are deployed to safeguard vulnerable stretches of the route.

According to the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), General Seth also reviewed operational deployments, counter-terrorism operations, inter-agency coordination, technological advancements and overall combat readiness.

Commending the troops, the Army Chief praised all ranks for their professionalism, dedication and unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, stability and security under challenging conditions in Jammu and Kashmir.
