Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programme in Vadodara demonstrates innovative public engagement as registrations opened through BookMyShow on Monday morning, successfully reaching capacity within just one hour. This initiative, launched by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), aims to simplify access for attendees, showcasing a digital-first approach.
The overwhelming rush for seats revealed the public’s enthusiasm, leading to over 42,000 applicants placed on a waiting list following closure. Such swift registration highlights the immense interest in PM Modi’s visit.
The event, scheduled for Tuesday, marks a significant milestone for Gujarat, where the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several development projects worth over ₹35,000 crore. The projects focus on infrastructure and connectivity enhancements crucial to regional development.
Among the key initiatives, PM Modi will dedicate sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) amounting to a staggering ₹20,700 crore. Notable segments include the New Sanand (N)- New Makarpura and New Saphale-New JNPT, which will improve logistics and decongest Mumbai’s overloaded railway system.
The commissioning of these sections will make the entire Dedicated Freight Corridor network operational, aimed at boosting the logistics ecosystem by enhancing multimodal connectivity and reducing transit times. This development promises to streamline cargo movement across multiple regions.
In addition to the freight corridors, PM Modi will flag off freight train services designed to improve transportation efficiency between industrial hubs and ports. He will also introduce a new passenger train service from Tanda Road to Vadodara, further enhancing local connectivity.
The Prime Minister’s agenda includes laying the foundation for three vital railway projects that encompass 329 kilometres and cost over ₹9,700 crore. These projects aim to bolster passenger and freight capacity while fostering connectivity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Furthermore, PM Modi is set to initiate three National Highway projects costing roughly ₹1,780 crore. These improvements, such as the six-laning of NH-48 and construction of major bridges, will ensure safer and faster travel routes.
In addition to these transportation initiatives, several Government of Gujarat projects worth around ₹2,600 crore will receive funding, including the Vadodara Urban Development Authority’s Ring Road Phase II and a floating solar project at Kadana Dam. Such projects accentuate the government’s commitment to sustainable development.
The Prime Minister’s visit will also include participation in the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai. This prestigious event, running from 8th to 11th September 2026, gathers influential figures in the fintech sector globally, fostering discussions on advancements in finance and technology.
The GFF 2026 focuses on themes like Agentic AI and quantum technologies, endorsing India’s leadership in digital finance and inclusion. Participants will convene to explore innovative solutions for inclusive finance, showcasing India’s solid groundwork in fintech.
