Shubman Gill Fined ₹12 Lakh for Slow Over-Rate as Gujarat Titans Edge Past Delhi Capitals in Thriller

Shubman Gill, captain of Gujarat Titans, has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

According to an official IPL media advisory, this was the team’s first offence under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate violations.

Despite the penalty, Gujarat Titans registered their first win of the season in dramatic fashion, defeating Delhi Capitals by just one run in a high-scoring encounter on Wednesday.

Chasing a target of 210, Delhi Capitals fell agonizingly short, finishing at 209 for 8. The match witnessed a tense finish, with David Miller declining a single on the penultimate ball and missing the final delivery bowled by Prasidh Krishna. In the closing moments, Kuldeep Yadav was run out following a sharp direct hit from Jos Buttler.

Gujarat Titans will next face Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on Sunday, while Delhi Capitals are set to take on Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on Saturday.
