Unregistered Drug Counselling Centre Sealed in Jammu’s Kunjwani After Inspection

District Administration Jammu has sealed Jiwandaan Foundation’s Drug Counselling and Rehabilitation Centre, also known as Jivan Ka Ehsaas Nasha Mukti Kendra, located in Kunjwani, after an inspection found the facility operating without mandatory registration.

The action was taken late Wednesday night under the directions of District Magistrate Jammu Dr Rakesh Minhas as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan. An inspection team led by Assistant Drug Controller Jammu examined the centre and found that the management failed to produce documentary proof of registration from the competent authority.

Following the inspection, the team recommended initiation of legal proceedings as per applicable laws, including provisions under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

Considering patient safety and regulatory requirements, Chief Medical Officer Jammu Dr Narinder Bhutyal ordered the sealing of the facility situated at 297, Elecon Complex, Lane No 7, Ekta Vihar, near Air Force Radar Station, Kunjwani.

The centre was sealed in the presence of Tehsildar Jammu South Arti Bhardwaj and Station House Officer Gangyal.

The District Administration Jammu has appealed to people to seek de-addiction treatment only from centres registered with the Health Department. Residents have also been urged to report any illegal de-addiction centres operating in their areas and avoid allowing such facilities to function from rented premises.

Currently, two government-run facilities are providing de-addiction services in Jammu district — the Drug De-addiction Centre (ATF) at Government Psychiatric Diseases Hospital, GMC Jammu, and the Police Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, Jammu.

The list of registered private OPD and IPD de-addiction facilities is available from the office of the Chief Medical Officer, Jammu.
