Police in Jammu and Kashmir arrested three suspected drug peddlers, including a 17-year-old boy, with heroin in Samba and Kathua districts on Monday. The operation reflects ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
The police apprehended the teenager late Sunday evening while he rode a motorcycle from Balole Khad toward JDA Colony in the Bari Brahmana area of Samba. A police spokesman confirmed that during a routine check, officers recovered 3.36 grams of heroin from his possession.
Authorities seized the contraband and the motorcycle as evidence. Following the apprehension, the police registered a case under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the minor. Subsequently, the teenager was presented before the relevant authority and sent to the Observation Home in R S Pura, Jammu.
In a separate incident, police captured two additional narcotic smugglers with 23 grams of heroin while conducting checks at Galak in the Billawar area of Kathua district late Sunday night. The suspects were identified as Pawan Dev Singh from Majalta in Udhampur and Naresh Singh from Makwal-Ramkot in Kathua.
Both individuals face charges under the NDPS Act, as law enforcement intensifies its crackdown on drug-related crimes in Jammu and Kashmir. Police emphasis on public safety remains a priority, as drug abuse continues to pose serious health risks in the region.
