Amarnath Yatra Suspended from Baltal Route Due to Bad Weather

The annual Amarnath Yatra faced suspension from the Baltal route on Friday due to bad weather and ongoing repairs, officials confirmed. The decision prioritizes the safety of thousands of pilgrims and the integrity of the trekking path.

Heavy rains pounded the Baltal area on Thursday night, causing a minor flash flood at one location. Fortunately, authorities reported no loss of life or property. The adverse weather conditions further necessitated preventive measures, leading officials to halt the pilgrimage from this route.

No pilgrims can proceed towards the holy cave shrine from the Baltal route as work continues on track repairs. Officials state that the safety of devotees remains their primary concern amid these unfavorable weather conditions.

Repair work is underway, and officials anticipate that it will enhance the safety and accessibility of the route once completed. The same precautionary measures apply to the Pahalgam route, which has already seen suspension due to necessary repairs.

The annual pilgrimage commenced on July 3, 2023. Approximately 4.5 lakh devotees have already visited the revered cave shrine, home to the naturally formed ice lingam. The authorities emphasize adherence to safe practices and update the public regularly regarding the status of the yatra.

The Amarnath Yatra is set to conclude on August 28, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Many pilgrims look forward to paying their respects during this time, making it a significant event on the Hindu calendar.
