Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in Bihar’s assembly, faced police detention on Wednesday during a protest march against police action during the NEET paper leak protests. The incident unfolded near the Income Tax office in Patna, according to SSP Kartikeya K Sharma.
Yadav and a group of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders marched towards Lok Bhavan from JP Golambar to voice their concerns over the state government’s handling of recent examination controversies. The march protested police actions, reflecting widespread unrest among students in Bihar.
Witnesses reported that police used water cannons on the protesting crowd, attempting to prevent Yadav and his supporters from breaching barricades along their route. Yadav expressed strong frustration over the situation, stating, “The government is pushing the future of students into darkness. Exam papers are getting leaked frequently.”
The NEET exam has sparked significant controversy after several leaks, leading to heightened fears about fairness and transparency in education. Students have increasingly voiced their concerns through protests, prompting a governmental response that many have deemed excessive.
Yadav further criticized the police’s aggressive measures, stating, “It is important to understand the emotions of Gen Z. The government used AK-47 rifles against the protesting students in Bihar, and pellet guns and nail-embedded batons against them in Delhi, just because they demanded an honest and transparent examination system.”
